Vaihto-oppilaat

Monet nuoret ovat alunperin kiinnostuneet Suomesta musiikin takia. Jotkut ovat kuulleet suomalaisten koulujen hyvästä tasosta ja haluavat kokeilla itse minkälaista koulunkäynti täällä on. Suomi-kärpäsen purtua nuoret ovat ottaneet enemmän selvää maastamme ja monet tietävät yllättävän paljon suomalaisesta kulttuurista ennen tänne saapumistaan.

Kaikki vaihto-oppilaamme puhuvat englantia ja varsinkin ensi alkuun isäntäperheet puhuvat enimmäkseen englantia oppilaiden kanssa. Englanti on myös oppilaan työkieli koulussa. Kaikki vaihto-oppilaat käyvät iltaisin vapaa-ajallaan suomenkielen tunneilla. On hämmästyttävää, miten nopeasti he oppivat kielemme. Viimeistään Joulun jälkeen oppilaat ajattelevat ja tekevät jo kokeetkin koulussa suomeksi, kotiin lähtiessä puhe on jo sujuvaa. Kehitys on uskomatonta!

Charlotte: ”I am an open-minded and patient and can adapt myself to a new environment easily. I am a joyful girl and a bit of a dreamer with an enormous curiosity to learn about the world. I have been to British Colombia for a three-month exchange program and it went really well. In April 2013 I am going to Cuba for one week of community help. I love to visit museums and learn about languages and cultures. I am also very proud of my black belt in taekwondo – I teach it three times a week, mostly to students under 15 years old. I am also taking classes so I can be a lifeguard this summer. I have a great sense of responsibility and I like to help people. I think that making sure that everybody is comfortable in a common environment is an important part of living in a society.”

I would also like to let other people know about the best Italian features. Miroku: ”I was named after ”Miroku Buddhist Saint”, which is designated a national treasure. In the school, I belong to Karate club, I practice it three times a week. Also I am a member of school council. I am concerned with school management from a student point of view. In winter season, my longskateboarding hobby increases, since we have snow. As you can see, then it's snowboarding. I started when I was 8 years old, so I can do well, I could teach you! Basically I like playing outside but if it is bad weather, I usually watch foreign drama and movies, or listen to music. Recently, I am into voice percussions songs. On Sundays, I make sunny-side up, I put it on rice. Also I cook lunch, I can cook pepperoncino, Hawaian locomoko-style rice ball and so on. I bet you'll be glad with this meal!”

Laura: ”I was born in Albania but I live in Italy since I was 2 years old. During the week I live in a boarding school but during weekends I go back home. I love cooking with my friends and with my mom. I will cook some Italian but also Albanian dishes for you, if you'd like. I will study hard and I will get involved in some school projects to show my host family my gratitude. I will help them clean the house and follow the rules. My parents say I am ambitious and determined, sometimes I am a bit insecure, but optimistic because I always try to find positive side in everything.”

After school, I want to travel a bit and see something of the world and then doing something in the media, film or journalism. I think Finland is full of beautiful things.”

And to fit in, we all have to make changes, so I have done it before and I can do it again. I really want to learn about the history of Finland, see the famous sites and attend as much family and school activities as I can.”
